PS5 Repair

Is your PlayStation 5 running hot, sounding like a jet engine, refusing to read discs or not turning on at all? iParts and Phone Repairs fixes PS5 consoles and DualSense controllers at all three of our stores: Folsom in the Sacramento area, Vacaville and Gresham, Oregon. Walk in, tell us what’s going on, and we’ll find out what’s wrong before any work begins.

Common PS5 Problems We Fix

No signal on the TV (HDMI port)

If the PS5 powers on but the TV says No Signal, the cause can be the cable, a TV setting or a damaged HDMI port on the console. The port is soldered to the main board, so replacing it is a micro-soldering job. Our guide on PS5 “No Signal” and HDMI port repair walks you through what to check at home first, and our HDMI port repair page explains how the repair works.

Overheating, loud fan and internal cleaning

Dust builds up inside every PS5 over time. It clogs the fan and the heatsink, the console has to work harder to stay cool, and you start hearing it. Signs it’s time for a cleaning or a closer look:

  • The fan is much louder than it used to be, or makes a rattling or grinding noise
  • You get a warning on screen that the PS5 is too hot
  • The console shuts itself off during games
  • Games stutter or freeze after the console has been running for a while
  • You can see dust built up in the vents

Our PS5 cleaning service includes opening the console, cleaning the fan and heatsink, and reapplying liquid metal on the main chip on PS5 models that use it. Like every service we offer, it starts with our $39 diagnosis, which goes toward the cost. We’ll tell you what we find, including anything beyond dust. Want to try a few things at home first? Read our post on PS5 overheating and when to get it professionally cleaned.

Disc drive problems

We look at disc edition PS5s that:

  • Won’t read discs, or say a disc can’t be read
  • Won’t take a disc in, or won’t eject one
  • Make clicking, grinding or loud spinning noises when a disc is inserted
  • Have a disc stuck inside

Please don’t pry a stuck disc out with a knife or a card. That’s an easy way to scratch the disc or damage the drive.

Won’t turn on, blue light or shuts off

A PS5 that won’t power on, shows a pulsing blue light and never gets to the home screen, beeps and then shuts down, or turns off during games can have a few different causes. It might be the power supply, overheating, a storage or software problem, or a fault on the main board. Before you bring it in, try a different wall outlet and make sure the power cord is pushed all the way in. Then try starting it in Safe Mode. If it still won’t cooperate, bring it in and we’ll test it on the bench to find the actual cause.

DualSense controller drift and charging

Controller drift is when your character or camera moves without you touching the stick. It’s usually caused by wear in the thumbstick module, and on a DualSense that module is soldered to the controller’s board. We also repair controllers that won’t charge, which is often a worn or damaged USB-C port, along with sticky or unresponsive buttons and triggers.

How PS5 Repair Works at iParts

  1. Walk in or call ahead. No appointment needed. For console parts, a quick call to your store helps us confirm what we have in stock.
  2. Diagnosis. We test the console or controller to find out what’s actually wrong. Diagnosis is $39 and goes toward your repair total if the device is fixable.
  3. A quote before any work. We explain what we found and what it will cost. You decide whether to go ahead.
  4. Repair and testing. After the repair, we test the console on a real display, and controllers with a console, before you pick it up.
  5. Warranty. Repairs include our 6-month warranty on parts and labor. Accidental or physical damage isn’t covered.

Bring the power cord with the console, and the HDMI cable too if the problem is no picture. If the PS5 was dropped, got wet or was opened up before, let us know. It helps us find the problem faster.

How much does PS5 repair cost?

It depends on what’s wrong. Diagnosis is $39 and goes toward your repair total if the device is fixable. We give you a quote before any work begins. You can also call (800) 619-6924 or get an instant quote online.

Do I need an appointment?

No. Just walk in during store hours. For console repairs, we recommend calling your store first so we can confirm parts availability.
