You’ve decided to part ways with your old devices, but you’re uncertain about how to go about it. Not to worry, this handy guide provides you with a comprehensive checklist of five important things to consider when selling your used devices.

Before we delve into the details, remember that you have viable options for selling in the Folsom, Vacaville, and Gresham areas. One such business is iParts & Phone Repairs, known for their top-notch repair services, offering good prices for buying and selling refurbished devices, and same-day payouts to customers who want to sell their devices.

Now, let’s dive into the five key factors to consider when selling your used gadgets:

1. Understand the Value of Your Device

The first thing you need to do is find out the current value of your device. This involves researching similar used models online to get a feel for the current market price. Keep in mind that the price will largely depend on the condition of your device, its age, and the included accessories. iParts & Phone Repairs offers free evaluations, giving you an idea of your device’s worth based on fair and current market trends.

2. Choose the Right Place to Sell

Selecting the right platform to sell your device can have a huge impact on your selling experience. While online marketplaces can reach a broader audience, they often come with various fees and the hassle of shipping the device. On the other hand, physical stores can offer a more straightforward, faster process. iParts & Phone Repairs, with locations in Folsom, Vacaville, and Gresham, provide a seamless transaction process, offering you competitive prices and same-day payouts.

3. Wipe Your Device Clean

One of the most crucial steps to remember when selling your used device is to back up and wipe all your data. This includes all personal information, such as photos, emails, and documents, as well as signed-in accounts. You want to ensure that the new owner cannot access your personal information. If you’re unsure how to do this, the experts at iParts & Phone Repairs can help guide you through the process to make sure your data is securely erased.

4. Prepare Your Device for Sale

A little preparation goes a long way when selling your device. This can range from a simple cleanup to minor repairs that could potentially increase the resale value. It’s also crucial to gather any included accessories like chargers or headphones as these can increase the appeal of your device to potential buyers. The team at iParts & Phone Repairs can assist you in this process and ensure that your device is in its best possible condition before selling.

5. Be Honest About the Condition

Transparency is key when selling your used devices. Accurately describing the device’s condition helps avoid any potential disputes or dissatisfaction from the buyer’s side. iParts & Phone Repairs encourages a truthful assessment of your device’s state, which not only builds trust but also ensures a smoother transaction process.

Making use of productivity apps makes it easier to set goals, assign tasks, track progress, and create reports. And this influences us to meet more productivity whether it’s for work, organizing a family vacation, or planning for an event. But productivity apps have different types, and you might not be using the best one for you. So here are some productivity apps for iPhone users.

1. Apple Notes

This is the best note-taking app for iPhone users. Remember everything and tackle any project with your list, notes, tasks, and schedule all in one app. When you put your notes here, it automatically syncs to all your devices. This helps you work anywhere because it keeps important info handy.  You can also add text, images, audio, scans, PDFs, maps, and documents that make your note more useful. Make your tasks easier to do with your notes with checklists and tap check-off items as you go.

This app has powerful and flexible searching capabilities that help you to get what you need in a matter of seconds. You can also scan documents to make them handier and save web pages and mark them with arrows, highlights, and texts to make them more useful. Apple Note can secure notes containing sensitive or personal data with a password, keep your notes in folders and subfolders then sort them as you prefer, and create Custom Smart Folders based on one or more tags. You can share and collaborate on entire shared folders, mention friends to alert them to important updates and direct them to a shared note and view the edit times and dates for the note with highlighted text color-coded to match the collaborators who were involved in the creation of the note. Quick Notes can be created on compatible iPad and Mac systems and viewed and edited on iPhone.

2. Outlook

It has impressive utility and power features, making it the ideal alternative to the more popular Gmail. Outlook helps you protect and keep your inbox clutter-free working around the clock. You can add popular services like Dropbox, Trello, Grammarly, and more, making it an ideal way to keep your workflow in one place.

It also has a To-Do feature that was formerly called Wunderlist. It also has an Immersive Reading Mode that filters images and quotes out of your email to present it as a clear document and complete with text-to-voice capabilities. Collaboration is easy with Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. With Skype, you can chat in real-time, right from your inbox. It has a built-in Calendar to keep you on track with your tasks. Outlook allows Two-factor authentication and email encryption for security. Outlook is easy to use since it’s designed to be more accessible to everyone with intuitive voice-control navigation, and support for multiple assistive devices.

3. 2Do

2Do was designed to meet your speed needs. You can quickly enter your thoughts and ideas before forgetting. You can enter multiple tasks in seconds with Quick Add on iOS. Quick Entry on Mac, on the other hand, is a comprehensive task editor that can be accessed anywhere, anytime, even when 2Do is not running. It’s simplistic appearance but it houses an incredible productivity-aware engine that can be as fierce as your workflow. It offers the perfect mix of a rich feature set and ease of use. From a full set of sorting filters, focus, tags, location, and date range, it will surprise you in every way with the amount of thoughtfulness and attention to detail that went into developing it. 2Do gives you complete control over all your workflows giving you the freedom to organize your lists, categorize, and sort them. Your notes can sync into iCloud, Dropbox, and Toodledo.

4. Apple Calendar

Apple Calendar is a user-friendly app installed on all MacBooks, iPhones, iPads, and Apple Watches in several versions of macOS and iOS. Your account syncs across desktop and iPhone so you can manage your schedule wherever you are. It’s knowledgeable to use and has all the features you’d expect from a web-based calendar, including the ability to create multiple calendars and customize the view of each calendar so you can see your schedule by day, week, and month.

5. Streaks

This is a great habit-tracking app for iPhone. This has two excellent features that set it apart from the other habit-tracker apps. It integrates very well with Apple’s ecosystem including Mac and Apple Watch and can be seamlessly integrated with Apple’s Health app, and its robust charts and graphics give you a more detailed interpretation of habit-tracking. You can choose or create up to twelve tasks. Streaks can automatically track certain goals with the iOS Health app. You can set how many times in a day per week, in a month, or every day. This app lets you quickly see which tasks are remaining for the day, and what’s in progress, and marked as complete. You can view your task statistics to keep you motivated.

Having an iPhone may already be quintessential for some people, but others still want to have a next-level extra. There are accessories that can make the iPhone push more performance, more secure, and more useful like leveling up photos and videos or charging up the device.

1. Prime Cables Lightning to HDMI Digital AV Adapter

The Lightning Digital AV Adapter supports mirroring of whatever is displayed on the device screen. This includes apps, presentations, websites, slideshows, and more. This adapter can be used with iPhone, iPad, or iPod with a Lightning connector. This AV adapter can connect to HDMI-equipped TV, display, projector, or other compatible monitors in up to 1080p HD. This can enhance the versatility of entertainment systems or presentations. This HDMI adapter is fast and easy to use. This Lightning to HDMI adapter can connect to most HDMI displays that broaden the use of the devices. The displaying photos, videos or other presentations from the iPhone can already be shared with family, friends, students, and others. This Apple Lightning Digital AV Adapter made browsing on larger screens easier and better.

2. Apple AirTag

AirTags are used to help track important stuff such as keys, bags, wallets, purses, devices, and others. This lessens the possibility of losing things. This keeps things on the owner’s radar. This uses the Find My app which can also track Apple devices. This cute keychain-looking Apple AirTag can play sounds on the built-in speaker via the new Items tab in the Find My app. It has Bluetooth proximity finding, Apple designed U1 chip for Ultra-Wideband and Precision Finding that uses an accelerometer sensor and NFC tap for Lost Mode. This can lead straight to the lost item; it displays the distance to the AirTag and the direction to head in. The Precision Finding is compatible with iPhone 11/Pro/ProMax, iPhone 12/mini/Pro/Pro Max, and iPhone 13/mini/Pro/Pro Max.

The tag efficiently sends out a secure Bluetooth signal to nearby devices in the Find My Network. The location of the AirTag signal is sent to the iCloud; then to the Find My app and can be viewed on a map. The process is encrypted and anonymous to protect privacy. When Lost Mode is turned on and detected by other devices in the network, this automatically sends a notification. The contact info of the owner can be gotten by the NFC tap. AirTag is still designed to discourage unwanted tracking. Only the owner can see where his AirTag is. The location data and history are never stored on the tag itself. The devices that relay the location of the owner’s AirTag also stay anonymous.

Its battery life is designed with a user-replaceable CR2032 coin cell battery that can last more than a year, and iPhone gives a notification when it’s time to be replaced. The 31.9 mm x 8 mm tag that weighs lightly as 11g is also Rated IP67 resistant to splash, water, and dust. That is a maximum depth of 1 meter up to 30 meters under IEC standard 60529 that should have an operating ambient temperature of -20 ℃ to 60 ℃.

3. Otterbox Amplify Glass Glare Guard

The Amplify Glare Guard is a Corning Aluminosilicate glass screen protector that is available for iPhones 11/Pro Max, iPhone 13/Pro/mini/Pro Max, and iPhone XR. The anti-glare screen protector defends screens against drops, scratches, and scrapes up to 5x greater resistance than leading glass alternatives while giving improved display readability from low to extreme lighting. The 0.04 lbs glass protector also boasts a lowered screen-brightness setting that enables extended daily battery life. This comes with an installation frame, cleaning wipe, drying cloth, and dust removal sticker.

4. Master & Dynamic MC100 Wireless Charge Pad

The Master & Dynamic MC100 Wireless charge pad is built to complement the MW08 Sport True Wireless Earphones that can be used with the iPhone. It is a beautifully engineered wireless charger having a low-profile look that is available in colors silver aluminum with grey coated canvas and gunmetal aluminum with black coated canvas. This charging disk measures 100mm by 100mm and is 9.9mm thick and weighs 90.7g. This gives 10 Watts of maximum output with an input of 5v/1.2~1.5A, 9V/1.2~1.5A.

The charging pad does not include an AC wall adapter. It has a LED indicator on the front of the charger which looks like a round drink coaster. It illuminates when a device is charging without being too bright. The bottom side of the Master & Dynamic MC100 Wireless Charge Pad is made from machined aluminum and has four anti-skid rubber feet to keep the MC100 from sliding around. Master & Dynamic claims that this charging pad can charge the MW08 Sport to 50% in just 30 minutes and a full charge from empty will take up to 100 minutes.

The iPhone 13 is also IP68-rated dust- and water-resistant, and you can swim up to 6 meters deep for 30 mins with your iPhone 13 if you’re into that!

Samsung Galaxy S22 5G: On the other side of the ring, the Samsung Galaxy S22 5G weighs 167 grams and is measured at 5.75 x 2.78 x 0.30 in. Similar to the iPhone 13, it has an aluminum frame with Gorilla Glass Victus+ front and back. Based on Samsung’s ads, the Galaxy S22 5G has an armor aluminum frame with tougher drop and scratch resistance. Moreover, this model is IP68 rated dust- and water-resistant.

Display

iPhone 13: The iPhone 13 has a 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR OLED panel with HDR10, and Dolby Vision support. Its display panel has a peak brightness of 1200 nits. As for display resolution, you get 1170 x 2532 image clarity, protected by a scratch-resistant ceramic glass with an oleophobic coating, wide color gamut, and Apple’s True Tone.

Samsung Galaxy S22 5G: Not straying far, the Samsung Galaxy S22 also has a 6.1-inch size display, but with Dynamic AMOLED 2X, 120Hz refresh rate, HDR10+, and a peak brightness of 1300 nits. However, display clarity is where iPhone 13 wins over the Samsung Galaxy S22 5G, since the Galaxy S22 5G only has a 1080 x 2340 panel. Wondering what protects the Galaxy S22 5G’s display? It’s Corning Gorilla Glass Victus+ and the panel has an Always-on Display feature. Perfect for those who don’t like tapping their phones to check the time!

Platform

iPhone 13: The iPhone 13 runs iOS 15 out of the box, and is upgradable to the latest version of the iOS 15. It runs on Apple’s A15 Bionic chip which has six CPU cores with a 4-core Apple GPU. Storage-wise, the iPhone 13 is upgradeable up to 512 GB.

Samsung Galaxy S22 5G: The Samsung Galaxy S22 5G is shipped out running Android 12 and is powered by Qualcomm SM8450 Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. Its CPU has eight cores and its graphics processor is Adreno 730, a brand you often see on Samsung smartphones. When it comes to storage, the Samsung Galaxy S22 5G is only up to 256 GB.

Camera

iPhone 13: Apple’s iPhone 13 has a dual-lens rear camera setup with the first lens being wide with 13 MP. The second lens is also 12 MP, but is ultrawide. Both lenses have their own LED dual-tone flashes and HDR photo and panorama. The highest video capture quality you can get from the iPhone 13 is 4K@60fps with Dolby Vision HDR support.

The front camera of the iPhone 13 has a single-lens setup, with 12 MP wide lens that is SL 3D supported. It has HDR and can take up to 4K@60fps videos.

Samsung Galaxy S22 5G: Samsung’s contender for this buying guide has a triple-lens rear camera setup. The main is a wide lens that has 50 MP, the second is a telephoto lens that has 10 MP with 3x optical zoom, and the third lens is ultrawide and has 12 MP with Super Steady video. The rear camera setup has a LED flash, auto-HDR, and panorama. Samsung Galaxy S22 5G’s rear camera can take up to 8K@24fps videos with HDR10+ support.

Its front camera is a 10 MP wide lens with Dual Pixel PDAF, auto-HDR, and can take up to 4K@60fps videos.

Price

iPhone 13: Starts at $799 for the 128 GB model. It comes in Starlight, Midnight, Blue, Pink, Red, and Green.

Samsung Galaxy S22 5G: Starts at $699.99 for the 128 GB with 8 GB RAM model. The Samsung Galaxy S22 5G comes in Phantom Black, White, Pink Gold, Green, Graphite, Sky Blue, Violet, and Cream.

What made you decide?

The phrase “going to the movies” has a new meaning thanks to online streaming services that a majority of us depended on when we’re not 100% sure about going out to see a movie in theaters.

Since we can watch movies (even the newest ones) without going out of the house because of streaming services, it’s hard to imagine a weekend without them. So if you’re surfing the web looking for a new streaming service or another one to add to your list, you’re in the right place.

We jotted down the best streaming services for 2022 that we recommend:

  1. Netflix

Netflix is known to have an impressive library of original movies, TV series, documentaries, and other types of consumable video content on its subscription-based platform. It’s probably the hottest streaming service right now because of its library alone and how accessible it is.

Outside of its original library, Netflix hosts classic movies and TV series people love to watch over and over, such as Friends, How I Met Your Mother, and other American series. It’s also home to an extensive list of hit series from South Korea and Japan.

When it comes to accessibility, you can count on Netflix to be available on any streaming device. You can use it on your smartphone, computer, Apple TV, smart TVs, and its library also supports streaming in 4K, HDR, and Dolby Atmos – for a price.

  1. Amazon Prime Video

Amazon Prime can be bundled with a Prime Video subscription or as a standalone subscription Like Netflix, Amazon Prime Video has its own library of original movies and series. You can subscribe to Amazon Prime and have Prime Video bundled with it, or only pay for a Prime Video subscription to access its library of video content.

There are tons of international films, 4K HDR support, and rental feature. Since Prime Video has a set of exclusive titles, you have to pay extra to watch them on your streaming device. In addition, there are also channels you can watch using your Prime Video subscription, such as Paramount Plus and AMC Plus, among others.

  1. HBO Max

HBO Max offers users an extensive library of iconic films and latest movie releases. You can subscribe to HBO Max ad-free or ad-supported, depending on your viewing preference.

Its library is constantly updated with the latest films from Warner Bros., new releases 45 days after their theatrical release, and a collection of content from classics such as Sesame Street, Adult Swim, etc.

However, despite its impressive library, it can’t stream in 4K HDR quality like Netflix and Amazon Prime Video. You’re limited to watching your favorites in 1080p, which isn’t all too bad if your display isn’t big or you stream on your smartphone.

  1. Disney Plus

Streaming service Disney Plus is home to Marvel and Star Wars films. So if you’re a fan of both franchises, a Disney Plus subscription is highly recommended to ensure you get all the movies you need for binge-watching.

You can get Disney Plus as a standalone subscription or with ESPN+ and streaming service Hulu.

Aside from Marvel and Star Wars films in one place, you also get access to Disney’s classic movies! However, this may mean the content leans more towards general audiences. It’s excellent for family movie times, but not if you’re into mature titles.

As for stream quality, Disney Plus can stream 4K HDR to support high-resolution displays for the best viewing experience.

Final thoughts

When looking for streaming services, you should consider what titles you want to watch and check if specific providers have them in their libraries. Even though monthly subscriptions aren’t expensive, you can spend those dollars on better streaming services that actually have what you want to watch.

Apple is known for designing its products to support each other. This can be seen in how integrated their products are with each other, which manifests clearly in Apple’s native tracking application, Find My. Find My allows you to track all compatible Apple devices signed into your iCloud account and included in your Family Sharing setup.

Another feature that takes advantage of Apple’s excellent cross-device integration is Universal Control. This feature lessens the time you take switching between your Apple devices. For example, you’re working on your MacBook, and you need a file from your iPad. You can simply drag and drop the file you need using your MacBook’s trackpad to navigate your iPad. What’s better is that Universal Control isn’t limited to two devices, but three.

With notable features making Apple gadgets easier to use, it’s time you find additional devices and accessories that’ll complete your Apple ecosystem. Here are five products we recommend:

1. 16-inch M1 Max MacBook Pro

The M1 Max is currently Apple’s most powerful processor, with 10-cores of CPU power and a GPU with up to 32-cores. The beefy Apple silicon is made even more powerful by 64GB of unified memory, making it a good MacBook for heavy video rendering and software development tasks.

The 16-inch MacBook Pro is built to be compatible with Apple’s latest integration feature, Universal Control, so that you can work between your other compatible devices without a problem.

2. iPad Pro 12.9-inch

Apple’s latest addition to their iPad Pro line are the 11- and 12.9-inch iPad Pro. Both come with up to 2TB of storage but differ in size, display quality, and battery capacity.

The iPad Pro 12.9-inch is powered by Apple’s M1 chip, which you’ll also find in their latest generation of MacBook Airs. The M1 chip has an 8-core CPU with 4 performance cores and 4 efficiency cores. In addition, it has an 8-core GPU with up to 16GB of RAM.

The 12-9-inch iPad Pro is fully compatible with Universal Control, so you can conveniently include it in your productivity arsenal and have no issues transferring what you need.

3. iPhone 13 Pro Max

The iPhone 13 Pro Max is Apple’s fastest iPhone, with the A15 Bionic chip and the Pro camera system with Telephoto, Wide, and Ultra Wide modes. It’s also 5G capable, making it fast enough to connect to the internet and support your online tasks without an issue.

The iPhone 13 Pro Max is fully compatible with Universal Control, so working alongside your iPad and MacBook is made extremely convenient.

Lastly, it’s compatible with Apple’s MagSafe accessories, making charging up this smartphone a hassle-free experience.

4. Apple Watch Series 7

The Apple Watch Series 7 currently has the biggest display out of all Apple Watch models released in the previous years. This made it an even more competent smartwatch because users who aren’t fans of smaller displays benefit from its upgraded viewable area.

The retina display also has an always-on feature, so you don’t have to repeatedly tap on your watch to see the screen.

5. MagSafe Duo Charger

As Apple continues to develop MagSafe-supported devices, the MagSafe Duo Charger becomes even more relevant. It allows you to conveniently charge your compatible iPhone, Apple Watch, AirPods, and other Qi-certified devices without the trouble of plugging into a charging port.

With the MagSafe Duo Charger, you can just lay your device on top, and you’ll get the juice you need for your devices.

Do you have an Apple iPad Pro and want to know how to fix the most common issues? You’re not alone. That’s why we prepared this guide to help you solve issues plaguing a lot of iPad Pro users.

The Apple iPad Pro line is Apple’s best line of iPads to date. The first iPad was already impressive when it came out in 2010, taking the world by storm. Apple has outdone itself over the years, coming out with new iPads that make consumers jump in line to purchase the new, revolutionary features.

However, each new feature has its issues and the iPad Pro is no different. While yes, it’s a highly capable device that can function like a small computer for basic computing tasks, it has its imperfections. We’re making it our duty to help you speed past the common issues you might encounter with your Apple iPad Pro.

1. The iPad Pro Shuts Down by Itself

Your Apple iPad Pro shutting down without you doing anything to cause it to happen could be a result of a few different issues. It could be because the iPad is running too hot and is trying to save itself from damage by taking a break and shutting down. Your battery could also need replacing or it could be due to other iOS update bugs.

How to Fix It

Solution 1: If you run demanding applications for long periods of time, it’d be good if you can work somewhere that’s cold to help your iPad Pro regulate its own temperature without shutting down. This doesn’t mean you need to set the thermostat to 50 degrees Fahrenheit, just make sure your iPad is not sitting in direct sunlight for too long.

While the iPad Pro is capable of running demanding applications when compared to other iPads such as iPad Mini, Air, and iPad, it’s still not engineered to run heavy-load computing applications for long periods.

Solution 2: Get your battery checked. The most probable cause of any battery-powered gadget shutting down by itself is a faulty battery. Fortunately, it’s not difficult to get Apple to replace your battery for a fee or without charge if your iPad Pro is under warranty. You can also contact your local repair shop to let them check your battery for signs of deterioration and have them replace it for you.

Solution 3: Keep your iPadOS up to date. Apple keeps an eye on common software issues and regularly sends software updates for customers. Make sure your iPad is up-to-date, running the newest software and you should have fewer difficulties. If the problem persists, you’ll have to reach out to Apple’s support lines to get personal assistance.

2. Your iPad Pro Can’t Connect to Wi-Fi Networks

If your iPad Pro can’t connect to Wi-Fi networks at home, in your office, or at co-working spaces, the problem may be with the device itself and not different routers. If you find yourself having trouble connecting to Wi-Fi networks anywhere you go, it’s a sign to get your device checked by Apple or your local iPad repair service provider.

Get It Fixed

Going to the experts is the best solution, especially if your Wi-Fi settings aren’t grayed out and can detect networks you can’t connect to. This can mean the issue lies with the iPad Pro’s components, and getting it checked out by professionals would definitely answer your most pressing Wi-Fi questions.

3. The iPad Pro Is Not Charging

Do you find yourself plugging your lightning cable in and out before you hear the distinctive Apple charging sound? Or does your iPad Pro take ages to get fully charged? These two things can be the effect of many issues with both your iPad Pro and charger.

The Fix

Solution 1: The first step in any troubleshooting is isolating the problem. First, try to use different chargers on your iPad Pro. If it does not work, it’s your iPad Pro that has an issue. If you’ve tried multiple chargers and they work, it’s the cable you usually charge with.

Solution 2: Your battery is dying. Literally. The only way to fix a dying battery is to get it replaced with a fresh one. If your iPad Pro is still under warranty, you can get your battery replaced for less at Apple. If not, it might be cheaper to get your local iPad repair shop to replace your battery.

Final Thoughts

Alas, you’ve reached the end of our short but insightful guide. We hope this helped you and that you can now identify any issues with your iPad Pro. Remember that while DIY projects are fun, it’s best to take your iPad Pro to your local repair shop and have the experts fix the issue.

Every year, we get thinner, more powerful, and of course, more expensive computers. Manufacturers are racing to be the first in new designs and capabilities so they can capture the hearts of consumers. Whether you use a computer for office-purpose or gaming — there is a perfect computer out there for you.

Brands have been in this game for so long, that they already know what we want and need.

If you’re in the market for your next computer, the holiday season is the perfect time to score the best deals on your next machine. Holiday shopping isn’t all about small gifts now — it’s about time we treat ourselves (or our loved ones) to a new shiny gadget.

Don’t worry, we’re not going to bombard you with sponsored brands and models of computers that came out this year. In this article, we’ll list the best computers based on what type of user you are. A gamer, a casual user, or a professional? We have a computer recommendation for you.

Ready to score your next computer? Read below and take your pick:

  • MacBook Air

The first one in Apple’s line of computers to run without Intel, the MacBook Air M1 hits the sweet spot from every possible angle. From its known portability because of how light it is compared to the MacBook Pro and non-Apple computers, it’s also one of Apple’s most popular laptop models.

Compared to other Macs, the Macbook Air is not expensive. It’s light, has many features, and is easy to use. You’ll see students use MacBook Airs often because they can take it anywhere without breaking their backs and banks.

Of course, we know you’d love to know the techy stuff about the Air M1. Click here for all the technical specifications you could want.

Looking to buy the MacBook Air M1? Weigh your needs first. What will you be using it for? Do you do photo and video editing often, are you planning to use it for gaming?

If you answered those two questions with a yes, then you’re better off with a MacBook Pro or a Windows gaming laptop since both can better handle those tasks.

  • ASUS ROG Zephyrus G15

Interested in a computer for gaming? Let’s look at the computer that’s best capable of running the latest titles.

A good example of a modern title is Ubisoft’s action-adventure first-person shooter, Far Cry 6. It’s a hardware-demanding game and, as a gamer, I know you’d want nothing but the smoothest gaming experience. Especially with a title that’s as immersive as Far Cry 6.

That’s why ASUS’ ROG Zephyrus G15 would be the perfect computer option for you.

Its base model is powered by the RTX 3050 GPU (exclusive to laptops) with the Ryzen 9 5900HS the processor.

With a base processing speed of 3.1 GHz, you’ll have enough juice to launch your games faster and keep up with fast-paced titles like Riot Games’ first-person shooter Valorant.

Of course, a beefy GPU and a fast processor are nothing without a top-of-the-line display panel. With the Zephyrus G15, you get a 15.6-inch 1440p display.

If you play a lot of first-person games, you’ll be satisfied with the display’s 165Hz refresh rate and 3ms response time.

Worried about colors and sync? The display panel is IPS and AMD FreeSync-enabled. No dead colors and screen-tearing. Only the best gaming experience possible.

Is this laptop only for gaming? No, it can be used for a wide variety of tasks.

It’s powerful enough to run hardware-demanding software used in photo and video editing, so you can’t go wrong with the Zephyrus G15.

  • MacBook Pro

Are we talking high-end photo and video editing? We can’t forget 2021’s MacBook Pro.

Apple’s October event introduced the remodeled MacBook Pro. The 2021 line added the 13-inch Pros to the MacBooks family.

The base model, MacBook Pro 13”, still has the M1 chip from the Air M1. The processor revamps start when you look at the 14” and 16” models. They’re powered by the upgraded M1 Pro and M1 Max chips, which sports up to 10 cores of processing power.

When it comes to graphics, the new Apple chips boast up to 32 cores of display processing.

Since storage is a big factor for photo and video editors, we’d like to highlight that the maximum configurable storage for these new MacBook Pros goes up to 8TB. Depending on the usual size of your work, this might be enough. If not, an external storage drive is always an option.

Despite the upgrades on hardware, the new MacBook Pros remain light. The base model weighs 1.4kg. The heaviest is the 16” model, which weighs 2.1kg.

  • Dell XPS 13 2-in-1

If there’s anything I’ve learned in technology, it’s that brands will find a way to combine things that make consumers happy.

Remember when tablets became popular? Today some of them are powerful enough to function like computers, but not so much that they can replace computers.

That’s how 2-in-1s came to be. Just a few years back we couldn’t imagine folding a laptop backwards without breaking it. Today, laptop screens can be rotated 180 degrees.

If you’re into the quirky features 2-in-1s have, Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 is a great pick. It’s powered by an 11th Generation Intel Core i5 CPU and an Intel Iris Xe GPU. The processor is good enough to handle day-to-day office tasks and browsing, but when you want to play modern titles using this 2-in-1, you won’t have an ideal gaming experience.

When it comes to the XPS 13’s display, you get a 13.4-inch touch panel. Unlike traditional laptops, its display can be used in a variety of ways. Turn and spin (carefully) to your comfort and you can rely on it to keep working when you do so.

Storage-wise, it has a PCIe NVMe SSD. SSDs are known to be faster than HDDs by a mile. And being in a PCIe lane with NVMe further shoots this convertible laptop’s storage speed ahead of HDDs.

Weight is a big factor for laptop fans. To guide you, this one weighs 1.32kg. A pretty common weight for modern Windows laptops.

Takeaways

Depending on what you want a laptop for, you’ll be better off with a MacBook or a Dell laptop. It all really depends on what you’re planning to use the laptop for.

If you’re not the best when it comes to computers, sales representatives at computer stores will be more than glad to assist you with finding the best computer for you.

Just tell them what you intend to use the computer you’re looking for and they’ll be ready with suggestions.

Whatever your choice ends up being, we wish you happy holiday shopping!

We’ve all noticed that many people gain immense popularity through live streaming content on platforms like Twitch, YouTube, TikTok, Facebook, and others.

Live Streaming has become so popular that almost every social media platform out there allows users to stream content live.

If you’re looking to become an “online streamer” or are just interested in exploring this part of the digital world, it’s crucial to find the best equipment possible without breaking the bank.

So before you run out and buy some fancy camera equipment, we’ve rounded up the best live streaming phones for you to consider:

  • iPhone 13 Pro Max

Aside from being a flagship product of California tech giant Apple, iPhones are known to have excellent camera quality. Every new model that comes out has an upgraded camera that makes your photos and videos look even more professional.

2021’s iPhone 13 line is no exception. The best model out of the three variants, the iPhone 13 Pro Max, boasts a 12 megapixel (MP) camera system that comes with unique features such as telephoto, wide, and ultrawide lens.

The picture quality can capture videos up to 1080p without high-dynamic-range imaging (HDR). The smartphones of today can take pictures at a quality level never seen before. So you don’t need to spend $5,500 on a new camera when a smartphone can capture high quality images, fit in your pocket, and not completely break the bank.

The iPhone 13 Pro Max also offers HDR video recording with Dolby Vision that can capture up to 4K at 60 fps. Talk about sharp and lag-free videos! Worried your live stream might be shaky? This smartphone’s camera has cinematic video stabilization for videos with 720p to 4K.

  • Huawei P30 Pro

Of course, Apple has competitors that are doing their best to compete with Apple’s high quality products. One such company is Huawei. With their P30 Pro, you get triple lenses equipped with Superzoom, 40MP sensor camera, and 20MP wide-angle lens.

You don’t have to miss a thing with this unit’s brilliant camera. They coupled its high-quality camera with a big screen, so you can see everything that’s happening!

Today’s phones boast excellent battery capacity and Huawei made sure not to forget this feature in the Huawei P30 Pro. This beefy battery capacity of 4200 mAh will make sure your live stream does not suddenly end without allowing you to say goodbye to your viewers.

Plus, you’ll have no problem live streaming videos in low-light with this phone. Huawei cameras are known for performing well even in bad lighting conditions.

You can record up to 4K at 30fps with this well-rounded Android-powered unit. What’s more, it costs significantly less than Apple’s iPhone 13 Pro Max.

So if you’re looking for a high-quality and affordable (at least when compared to the 13 Pro Max), Huawei’s P30 Pro line is worth looking into.

  • Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra

Samsung’s Galaxy S21 Ultra, released January 2021, can’t be left out. It’s currently Samsung’s best smartphone camera, with a 108Mp rear camera and 3 other rear lenses that have up to 12MP of clarity. The Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra will take your live streaming to the next level.

Worried about the resolution of your livestream video with this phone? You don’t have to be. It can take up to 8K at 24fps! That’s the highest resolution on our list, and if you love razor-sharp videos, the S21 Ultra is definitely for you.

If you want to ensure your live streams have high-quality and are lag-free, then you can record 4K at 30fps videos without a problem.

The length of your stream shouldn’t be a problem with Samsung’s newest phone. It has a 5000 mAh non-removable battery that can let you stream videos for as long as your heart desires.

All in all, it may not be as cheap as our Huawei P30 Pro contender, but the price increase is definitely worth paying for if you want high quality livestream videos.

  • Google Pixel 5

If you don’t follow tech news, you might not be aware that Google isn’t just a search engine. It’s also a smartphone manufacturer — and a good one at that.

While the competition in the smartphone market is tough, Google surely benefits from its household popularity. Their smartphones have undeniably high quality standards, and that shows with the Google Pixel 5.

The Google Pixel 5 is a lightweight and comfortable smartphone with an ultrawide 16MP main camera. You can record up to 4K at 60fps with this Google smartphone. That quality will allow for clear livestream videos, especially if you want all the details in the frame captured perfectly.

It also has a 4080 mAh battery that will ensure that your livestream sessions are not cut off too soon.

Google may not be the first brand that pops in your mind when you think of the best smartphone cameras, but they’re worth a look.

  • OnePlus 8 Pro

One of the Chinese tech company’s most well-rounded and popular smartphones, the OnePlus 8 Pro, packs a powerful main camera that lets you shoot at 48MP or 12MP.

It also has a 119-degree field of view, which should be wide enough for your wide-capture livestream video. We know this is important when you want to stream landscapes.

You also don’t have to worry about the battery capacity of the OnePlus 8 Pro. It has a 4510 mAh battery that offers wireless charging! If that beefy battery isn’t enough for your livestream and interactions with your viewers, then the wireless charging feature should help.

What else should you consider when looking for a phone for live streaming?

Aside from the image quality of your live streams, one thing you also have to consider is the size of the screen, storage space, and battery capacity.

Battery capacity

There are numerous smartphones out there packed with cameras powerful enough to produce lag-free clarity, but in order to produce those kinds of videos to your viewers, battery life takes a hit.

So in looking for a smartphone for live streaming, it’s important to consider the battery capacity of the cell phone you want to use and if they offer convenient charging features such as fast and wireless charging.

We all know it’s not easy to livestream if you constantly have your phone plugged into a power bank or a wall socket.

Storage

If you’re streaming on a social media platform, you might think storage isn’t a factor for the device you’re using to live stream. But it actually is.

Your phone needs to store temporary data or you may also want to save your live stream in real-time so you can play it back for review, edit it for another video, or to save for future use.

Since your videos will be high quality, that means they’ll take a lot of space on your smartphone. That’s why you need a large storage capacity or you could run the risk of losing a recording when the cell phone’s free space runs out.

Screen size

Another thing that’s notable with today’s popular smartphones is the screen size. With every release, the viewing area gets larger and larger.

But not every phone with an excellent live streaming camera comes with decently sized screens.

You need your screen to see what you’re currently showing in your livestream and to also see what your viewers are saying in the comments section. If you’re not using another phone to view comments and reactions, you definitely need a smartphone with a big screen for streaming content.

Takeaways

We all see thousands of people sharing their daily lives online. There are people who prefer perfectly curated photos, videos, and there are the ones who like to stream content live.

The best phone for streaming with good resolutions can vary depending on what your other needs are aside from sharp image quality. Your budget, activity, and the content you want to stream will be major factors in searching for the perfect phone for live streaming.

Don’t grab the phone that only has the highest MP. You might risk suffering from mediocre battery life, small screen size, and small storage capacity that’ll make your live streaming experience difficult.

Look for a smartphone that has the right balance of image quality, battery life, and storage space. Make sure to look around for brands that sell phones with the specifications perfect for your needs and don’t be afraid to try new brands!

Who knows? You might find the live streaming community’s next best smartphone for livestream videos.

Now that many companies have transitioned to part-time or full-time remote work environments, you’re probably wondering what computer you should get yourself to help you work better. You might also use a computer for hobbies like gaming, drawing, recording podcasts, or editing videos.

But the problem lies in picking between a Mac and a Windows PC. It’s an age-old rivalry, Mac versus Windows PC. Both have their strengths and weaknesses, but when you line the two up, which comes out on top?

There is a laundry list of specs and subtle differences between the two computers, but today we’ll be focusing on three: Design, Repairs, and Portability.

What do you need a computer for?

When selecting between different types of ANYTHING, it’s important to consider what the needs are and what computer is best suited to your preferences.

In this case, it’s a computer you’ll use for your day-to-day work.

There are different employees with different needs, especially when you’re in an industry that needs specific hardware and software to be taken properly.

If you work with hardware-intensive software like Adobe’s Premiere Pro, Photoshop, CorelDRAW, and others, you’re bound to buy something that can run these programs without an issue.

But if you mostly use Microsoft Office and your browser for research and writing, you’re better off with something that meets basic spec requirements. Something that can run 2 to 5 tasks without lagging.

Now decide

After making a mental list of what you’ll need in a computer or what you want to use it for, the choice should be easy. If you’re not good with computers, it’d be best to consult with co-workers or your supervisor/boss.

In the Mac spectrum, there are high-spec MacBooks that are upgradable but come with hefty sale, upgrade, and repair prices. The upside to the price of Mac computers is that many users tend to stick with one Mac product at a time for YEARS.

You’ll see people using the same Mac computer for 3 to 5 years before getting themselves a new one. That says a lot about quality, right?

For Windows PCs, you can rely on variety and affordable prices. There are thousands of brands (both good and bad) producing Windows-based PCs at ideal prices for you. Top those prices with upgradability, and you’ll be using a pretty decent unit for 1-3 years.

The downside to Windows PCs, however, is that they tend to encounter more hardware and software issues than Macs. There are driver issues, errors you don’t know how to fix, slower operating speed due to decaying parts, lack of storage, and many other issues.

But because Windows PCs have more flexibility when it comes to upgrades, it means they’re easy to repair when they encounter issues. Repairs for them are also not as expensive and wallet-draining as Macs.

There are millions of repair tutorials on the internet that Windows fans follow when their PC starts acting up. Plus, upgrade and replacement parts are easier to purchase.

Design

If you’re a computer user who cares about how a computer looks, then you’re good to go with Macs. They’re sleek, light, and have designs that are recognizable to anyone. The Apple logo is probably the only thing on there, and that’s a nice addition when you’re into minimalism.

With Windows PCs, there are units with great designs, but they usually come with steep price tags that are similar to Apple pricing. It’s also not easy to find an affordable PC that boasts less weight and a sleek design.

Simply put, if you like looking at a sleek unit, Macs are great options.

If you want to combine price and performance minus the good design, look into getting yourself a Windows PC.

But if you want capability, upgradability, and good looks, check out high-end Windows PCs.

Macs: 1 PC: 0

Repairs

No device lasts forever without encountering issues. That’s why customization is a good plus for people who love to tinker with their computers, and good for computer repair shops.

Macs are notorious for being expensive when they break and getting them repaired can cost a large amount of money depending on the issue.

The sophisticated but un-customizable engineering of Macs made them difficult to repair, and quality replacement parts are hard to find and expensive to purchase.

But with Windows PCs, there are brand-name upgrade and replacement parts in the market that consumers can simply order and get delivered to their doorstep.

They can even repair their Windows PC at home if they know enough about it and are confident. But if you don’t want to risk it, there are computer repair shops that will be more than willing to repair your PC and upgrade it to help you maximize its features.

Macs: 0 PC: 1

Portability

Some businesses have gone with a part-time remote work schedule. That means anything that’s light and designed for portability is a good thing for your lifestyle. You’d want to be able to continue your work wherever you may be. This is where Mac’s portability puts it above Windows PCs.

Mac computers are light, slim, and easily slip into backpacks and even most handbags. The chargers are also easy to carry because of their simple design.

But for Windows PCs, it’s difficult to find an affordable unit that has decent specs and is portable. Most of them are made to be affordable to the masses, and that’s what’s good about them. But you don’t want to lug a heavy computer around campus.

So if you want to be able to take your computer with you anywhere you go, a Mac is a great pick.

Macs: 1 PC: 0

The verdict

Now that we’re at the end of this article, here’s the points tally:

Mac: 2
Windows PC: 1

But that doesn’t mean you should automatically opt for a $1300 MacBook.

You should also consider if that price will give you what you need for work and leisure. Macs are for creative activities and portability, while Windows PCs are for upgradability and high-performance activities like gaming.

If you know a lot about computers and already have specs in mind, it’ll be a no-brainer to find a PC that will suit your tech needs.

Just keep your budget, lifestyle, and computing needs in mind while you’re browsing. You should be ready to invest in a good PC once you know what you need and how much you want to spend.

Most of us store sensitive data like passwords and bank card information on our phones. If our phones fall in the wrong hands, so will our personal and important information. Data can be lost and corrupted, or worse, stolen. To protect yourself from such errors and attacks, backing up your data regularly should be a habit. Creating backups will let you seamlessly access your files and information stored in the cloud using secondary or backup devices.

Why is it important to backup your data?

We rely on our electronic devices to store our data. We use devices like mobile phones, laptops, external hard drives, flash drives, and many more. But what do you do when they run into problems that lead to losing your data? If you don’t keep your data backups up-to-date, you risk being left with outdated data for work, school, or personal purposes.

But if you don’t back up your data at all, you’ll end up losing all the data you’ve collected since the day you started using your storage device. On the bright side, having a good backup of your data will ensure that, whatever happens to your devices, your files will remain intact for you to use and view in the future.

Where should you store your backups?

These days, we have a lot of options when it comes to backing up information. The old and trusted way is to use external storage drives such as flash drives and external hard drives that can store up to 4 terabytes of data, such as Western Digital’s WD MyBook Duo 4TB.

But there are digital options like the numerous cloud services available for all types of users. You might be a mobile phone person or a computer person, but these cloud providers don’t discriminate. You’ve probably heard of DropBox, Google Drive, and similar providers giving users free cloud storage capacities with a simple sign-up. We highly advise you to grab these free storage spaces!

How can you protect your data?

Got unlucky and lost your data without backup? Then your best bet is to seek help from professionals! If you are handing your phone over for repair, take these extra measures first to protect your data:

1. Backup your data

Whether it is a simple screen replacement or a more complex device repair, many things can go awry during repairs that may further damage your device. In the unlikely event that this happens, you can prevent loss of data by ensuring your information is always backed up. Most smartphones can be set on automatic backup, so you do not have to manually do it yourself.

There are two ways you can back up your data. You can go to your device settings and manually perform a backup. Or, as previously mentioned, you may also set it on automatic backups so that your data will be backed up regularly.

Another method is to plug your device into a computer. For iOS users, backups are seamless as long as you have iTunes installed. For Android users, there are several ways to backup your information. You can do this by transferring files via USB, using third-party software, or syncing your Google account to either Google Drive or Google Backup and Sync.

If you backup your device by using the USB cable that came with your device, you will need to enable USB debugging and manually select files to backup. When using third-party software, you can back up your entire device and restore data, similar to how iOS backup works. Most of these applications are not free though.

If your Google account is synced to Google Drive, your data may be backed up on the cloud. If it syncs to Google Backup and Sync, your data will be stored locally on your computer.

Backing up an Android to your computer may be a little confusing. If you are having any difficulties backing up your Android device, you should seek assistance from our technicians.

Even if you are not getting your phone repaired, backing up your data should be done regularly so you can retrieve and access your data anytime, even if you do not have your primary device with you.

2. Log out from your accounts and disable passcodes

Some phone repairs may take longer and if you do not want to wait for your device, you will have to drop it off and pick it up at a later time. You should disable passwords and other locks so technicians will be able to easily lock and unlock your device during the repair.

To protect your privacy, log out from all applications, especially your social media and cloud accounts. Alternatively, you may also download and use an application that will let you create passwords and secure your files without necessarily logging out from your accounts.

3. Remove SIM and external storage cards

Most smartphones have huge storage capacities. But if you are still using external storage cards, do not forget to remove them along with your SIM card before handing it over for repair. These cards are small and may easily be lost during a repair. If your device is queued for a repair, you will be unable to receive and make calls and texts for a period of time, so it is advisable to temporarily insert your SIM card to a secondary or backup phone.

4. Wipe out your data

Don’t want to go through the hassle of logging out of your accounts or downloading privacy applications? After backing up your device and all its data, you may skip logging out of your accounts by performing a factory reset on your device to wipe everything out. This will ensure no one can access or steal your data.

For iOS users, simply go to Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content and Data.

For Android users, go to Settings > Backup & reset > Factory Data Reset. Tap Reset phone once the prompt appears.

You can easily retrieve and restore backed-up data after your phone is repaired by either connecting your phone to your PC or downloading your backup directly to your device when you log in to your associated email.

5. Make sure you’re working with reputable repair stores

Technology has become so essential that millions of tech repair stores have popped up around the world. Even densely populated areas have their own tech repair shops these days! With tons of choices out there, it might be difficult for you to find technicians you can trust with your devices and data.

To make sure you’re working with repair shops you can trust, read reviews, view websites, and observe how they handle your queries! It’s also a good idea to ask people you know where they get their device repairs done.

Things to remember

Information is gold these days. People can sell, trade, and use data to earn money. As you sign up for more items or services, the amount of data you need to protect grows. That’s why it’s important to keep in mind that your data is private and important — no matter what it is or what you intend to do with it. When your data falls into the wrong hands, it will lead to problems. Remember, protect your data by backing it up, using trusted services, and working with reputable technicians that will help you attain your goal — data protection!

Using a laptop for school? It’s time to check and see if you need to get something fixed before school work flows in. Read below to know what you should look out for, and what you should do when you spot an issue.

In today’s world, having a computer you can take anywhere and pop open with a single button is extremely convenient. Top that with useful features such as video calling, watching movies, playing music, and other heavy tasks such as developing applications and editing media — you already know you have a powerful electronic device the size of your backpack. It can be smaller or way bigger — and you know you can’t live without one especially if you’re a student or a professional. That’s your handy laptop for you, but what are you gonna do once it stops serving you the way it used to?

What are the most common laptop issues?

Electronics have been with us for so long that we forget that they don’t last forever. Their performance levels decrease over time, their parts deteriorate with use, and they encounter problems — some fixable, and some impossible to solve. Luckily, we have a big array of choices when it comes to portable computers — or laptops. There are consumer-favorite Apple MacBooks and there are high-performance and gaming laptops from Acer, Asus, Alienware, Dell, and many other manufacturers that are no strangers to the modern and digital world.

But no matter how expensive, powerful, and sturdy a laptop is, it’ll always get hiccups. It can even be rendered useless one day. To the average user, the sound of their reliable go-to laptop dying in the middle of schoolwork due in less than 24 hours sounds like a chilling nightmare. That’s why it’s always a good measure to observe your laptop’s health — see if it’ll live through another semester — to make sure it won’t die on you during your most grueling days as a student.

To help you see things through with your laptop, we’ve compiled a list of the most common issues laptops get. Some are due to the nature of how you use your laptop, some due to age, and some due to other factors such as the environment. Take a look:

Overheating

While basking in the comforting heat of summer is always a good thing, such is never the case for electronics. Most especially for laptops because they’re not equipped with high-performance cooling systems like desktop computers are. Owning a laptop means you can’t do much to help it cool down and maintain ideal temperatures.

Laptops are compact. Components are squeezed in to fit and work the same way desktop computers do, and that comes with sacrificing space for adequate airflow to cool down these components, which makes overheating a big problem. Overheating is always possible when:

  • You use your laptop in hot and dusty places
  • You use your laptop for prolonged periods
  • You use your laptop for heavy tasks such as photo and video editing and gaming

Other factors contribute to bad component airflow, but those three are the most common culprits. That’s why there are small solutions such as laptop stands with fans installed to help remove the hot air from the components. But if your laptop experiences high temperatures for prolonged periods, its components will degrade much faster and you’ll need to visit laptop repair shops more often for professional laptop repair services.

Short battery life

Remember when you got your laptop out of the box and it can last you more than a day’s worth of work? That’s because your laptop’s battery is at its peak health, and over years of use, bad charging habits, and overall maintenance, deterioration is unavoidable.

Even if you don’t use your laptop for a month, its battery life still shortens. They’re engineered to not last forever, hence the existence of replacement laptop batteries from manufacturers and laptop battery replacement services from computer repair shops.

When you notice that you can’t stay away from the wall socket while you’re doing school work, it’s best to get a new battery installed by a professional. Doing this prevents your laptop from shutting down in the middle of intense work and losing all the work you put in. A fresh battery also allows you time away from the wall socket — something very important when you’re in university and constantly switching spots.

Broken Keyboard

Imagine writing a term paper with some keys of your laptop’s keyboard not working. Just thinking about it stresses you out, right? While there are band-aid solutions such as your operating system’s native on-screen keyboard, it’s not a productive option. It slows you down and makes typing a hassle, especially when you’re at your peak and ideas are pouring out of your brain.

Sadly, laptop keyboards are prone to damage. It can be from spilled water, coffee, crumbs of your favorite snack while working, and dust. Even if you’re very careful about snacking and drinking close to your laptop, you can’t avoid it from getting worn out or dislodged from years of usage — even worse when you’re a heavy user and have sweaty hands. Your laptop’s keyboard legends will turn invisible in no time!

Luckily, manufacturers are very aware of this laptop keyboard phenomenon. Some of them produce replacements and include them in warranty policies for their laptops! If your laptop isn’t covered anymore, your best bet would be to drop by your go-to laptop repair shop and get their expert help.

Bad loading times

Almost every laptop that came out during the previous years came with hard disk drives (HDDs), which are thick, mechanical storage drives for computers. Although they come cheap compared to solid-state drives (SSDs), they’re not as reliable because:

  • They have a short lifespan
  • They’re much slower than slightly expensive SSDs

The number one cause of bad laptop loading times is an old HDD. If not, it’s your inadequate memory capacity doing its thing. Laptops today still come with HDDs, but there are always computer repair shops ready to help you upgrade to an SSD and a bigger memory capacity.

Slow laptops are annoying. But there are technicians out there who can solve your problem with a few hours of tinkering.

Malware

The bane of operating systems and storage devices is malware. They’re malicious software that works in different ways — all you and your computer wouldn’t like. Every laptop is prone to malware, which makes it important for you to be highly aware of the stuff you download from the internet or the devices you plug into your computer.

Each malware is made to do something malicious. Let’s say you downloaded a free Microsoft Office package from a website. Chances are high that the file came with malware, or is malware. It can be something created by someone’s brain to steal personal information, spy on you, and many others.

Your best protection against malware attacks is to refrain from downloading files from websites that aren’t reputable. Your anti-virus can’t always protect you, which further cements that prevention is better than cure. If it’s too late to prevent it, there’s always the option to install your operating system fresh — taking you back all the way to when you first booted up your laptop.

When is the time for a laptop repair?

Now that you know the most common laptop issues, or already encountered one or two, you’re now asking if it’s time to seek professional help. While this is always the case for people who aren’t or don’t have the time to tinker with laptops, some of us want to try and solve things on our own.

The time for a laptop repair depends on how bad the problem is. Is it causing your productivity to decrease? Are you failing to submit your work on time because of it? Or did your laptop stop booting up? If your answers to those questions are all yes, then it’s time to drop by a repair shop and ask them for assistance.

If you went “no” on one or two of those questions, then maybe you can push a visit to the repair shop a little later. If your laptop is slow but still gets the job done with you having to work much longer and earlier than usual, it’s fine to push a diagnostic check back.

But it’s important to keep in mind that problems, even the ones with your laptop, are always better off solved the moment you take notice they exist. If you wait longer and it starts getting more problems, you might end up losing your laptop totally and end up spending on a new one unprepared.

You can always call up laptop repair shops and bring your laptop in for a check-up, and they’ll gladly help you determine what’s wrong and if you can wait out on a laptop repair. If they tell you an issue needs to be resolved as soon as possible to prevent further damage, it’s best that you go with their advice. Since they’re the ones who work around laptops a lot and have experience with fixing them, they know when a problem is serious enough to warrant service or replacement as soon as possible or not.

3 laptop care tips to follow

If you’re lucky enough to have a fully functioning laptop that gets the job done when it should, we’re happy for you. But we won’t miss the chance to tell you how to take care of it and make sure it stays strong until it can’t anymore.

We’ve created a quick list of laptop care tips you should follow to ensure that your laptop stays with you during your studies’ sunny and rainy days. Read below:

  1. Avoid drinking and eating while using it

If you like to drink and snack while working on your laptop, we highly advise that you lessen these occasions. While it’s good to sip on your morning latte while working on a research paper, there’s always the possibility of it spilling on your laptop! Cold or hot, it’ll do the same thing — damage your laptop and cost you money on repairs. Or worse, a replacement unit.

  1. Stop downloading from untrusted websites

You know what it is — free movies, games, software, and many others. While some things you might need from school or work are expensive when you get them paid for the full features, they’re always worth the investment. Getting a paid version means you’re getting the real deal, which makes it impossible for it to be malware.

Aside from destroying your laptop and potentially getting your privacy invaded, there are piracy laws that will punish you for downloading and using pirated versions of movies, games, and other paid stuff you can find online for free.

  1. Let it cool down

Because most of us use our laptops with our palms resting on their surface, it’s impossible to ignore that it gets hot that you can’t touch it for longer than a second. Whenever this happens, we highly advise that you shut it down properly and let it cool down! Just like you, your laptop needs a break. If it doesn’t get those breaks, it might end up leaving you for good, or costing you money.

Takeaways

When using a laptop, it’s important to keep in mind that while these electronics are made to mimic most of what a desktop computer does, it’s still not the same. It can’t work for prolonged periods and rely on good custom cooling systems for dear life, and it gets its power from batteries that don’t last forever.

Laptops are extremely convenient, especially for students who are constantly on the go and work in different spaces. Since school is just around the corner, why not check your laptop for issues or have a professional do it for you before you start using it every day? Some computer repair shops offer free diagnostic tests, which help you find out what’s wrong with your laptop and what can be done to fix the problem.

If your laptop is on the fritz, don’t wait until school starts to get it looked at. Now is the time for a free diagnostic run by one of our tech experts. We’ll fix anything wrong with it and ensure you are able to make it through this semester without a technical malfunction. Give us a call, come visit us, or fill out our online quote tool and we will reach out to you.

Whether we’re talking about the MacBook, MacBook Air, or MacBook Pro, one thing’s for sure — anyone who’s used any of them long enough has experienced a problem or two, such as a cracked LCD, a bad battery, or some other hardware issue.

MacBooks are expensive and generally perform better than other computers. It’s this reason that MacBooks are generally used more than PCs. In a recent study, a tech firm gathered information on the preference of 2,200 college students that year. They made these correspondents choose between Macs and PCs. The study revealed that 40% of the students prefer the MacBook, as they use them as daily drivers. 31% use PCs but actually prefer Macs, and 29% use PCs and prefer them as well.

Macs are indeed popular, but just like PCs, they are prone to wear and tear. This brings us down to the most common MacBook problems these users face. If you are a MacBook user, you’re probably all too familiar with the following list.

The most common MacBook problems

RAM – RAM becomes a problem for MacBook users today because of the increasing RAM power demand to run software. This is especially true for users who use their Macs for hardware-intensive software such as ones for video and photo editing.

Remember that RAM stores the information it needs to access and run things quickly. So if you don’t have enough, you’re probably in for extra hours on top of the work.

Charging Ports – As a MacBook user, it’s easy to accidentally misplug. Sometimes, it’s easy to unintentionally snag it out of the plug because you forgot that you’re still charging. These small mishaps always lead to faulty charging ports.

Dead Battery – The eventual result of a faulty charging port and an aging Mac is a dead battery. A dead MacBook battery means you’d have to constantly search for a place to plug in, which is not ideal for the busy on-the-go student or business professional.

Backlight – Backlight helps illuminate the screen, allowing you to see items in the Mac’s display better. A broken backlight means you won’t be able to distinguish things like text and icons from the background.

There are hundreds of MacBook issues experienced by everyone, but the big question is, are MacBooks worth getting repairs for?

Should I get my MacBook repaired or buy a replacement?

Now that you know the most common issues you’ll face, or have faced with MacBooks, you’re wondering how much you should expect to pay for getting a MacBook repaired. You’re probably even asking yourself if getting a repair is even worth it. We’re going to help you decide.

When considering a MacBook repair for any problem, one of the first few things to consider is the price. The price depends on the damage and the model of the MacBook. We do offer free repair quotes, so if you’re in trouble, please bring your MacBook in directly to us and we’ll give you a free quote.

Repair prices are always based on the service, labor prices, the area where you’re getting repairs from, and the model of your MacBook. But with AppleCare+, your repair may cost a little less — it’s like a discount you have to pay for.

We Have Both Options!

Fortunately, we have you covered no matter what you do. We do offer used and refurbished MacBooks, but before you browse our selection, bring in your old MacBook and we’ll give you a free repair quote. If it makes more sense to repair it, we can do that.

High megapixel cameras, big touchscreens, thumping loudspeakers, and the likes aren’t just enough to satisfy the needs of today’s phone users. Some want more battery juice without the need for a wall socket, some need extra protection for their phones, while some love the convenience of wireless earphones and headphones.

There are so many phone accessories available in the market that it’s getting harder to pick the ones that we want and the ones that are of high quality. Feel the same? You can use our list of hand-picked phone accessories you should get:

1. Phone Cases

More often than not, when we get a new phone, the store selling it to us offers us a selection of phone cases. Some are fancy and over the top, while some are humble and do what they’re supposed to without being loud. If you’re prone to accidentally losing your grip on your phone, you know the necessity of having a sturdy phone case.

When in the market for a phone case or two, make sure to pick according to how you handle your phone. Is it always in your hand? Get a thick one that’ll protect its housing from falls. Always in your bag? Get a phone case that also covers the screen. The number of choices can be overwhelming, so make sure to gather a quick list of what you want your phone case to do for you.

2. Apple AirTags

In addition to the benefits of a phone case to protect your smartphone’s body, you have Apple’s new AirTags that help you keep track of your other personal property. Just like an iPhone, the tracking is done in the Find My app, but in the case of AirTags, they’re attached to things that aren’t iPhones. Those things can be your wallet, your car keys, and other items that are prone to be misplaced. Simply add an AirTag to your personal item, and let Apple keep track of its location for you.

AirTags lets you know about the last location of your AirTagged items through the Find My app. Misplaced the keys to your house? With the AirTag as a keychain, you won’t have to scramble through every place you’ve been in the last 24 hours to find your keys.

3. Wireless Earphones and Headphones

In the era of wireless tech, tangle-free earphones and headphones are seen as basics. Having them handy means you get more freedom when it comes to movement, especially when you listen to music, podcasts, or talk to people while on the move.

Fortunately, most smartphone manufacturers produce wireless earphones and headphones dedicated to maximize Bluetooth technology and make our lives more convenient. Depending on your phone, you can choose between Apple’s AirPods, Samsung’s Galaxy Buds, and other brands. You can use each with any phone, which is a good thing considering the price tag of some of the best wireless earphones and headphones in the market today.

4. External Storage

Most of today’s phones come with at least 32 gigabytes of storage. But to most people, that amount of storage isn’t enough. With high-quality media in their phones, it’s hard to contain one’s files in 32 gigabytes. That’s why external storage devices and cards are necessary.

Most Android phones allow users to purchase additional storage through memory cards, but this isn’t the case for iPhones. iPhone fans will need to purchase the storage they want right off the bat because they won’t have the chance to expand unless they buy another unit. However, you generally can purchase more iCloud storage, so consider this option.

5. Fast Charging Cables

Some cables that come with our phones upon purchase usually don’t last long and don’t cover enough distance. Thankfully, we’ve got a lot of choices when it comes to third-party charging cables that span up to at least 3 meters. That should be enough to let you comfortably use your phone away from the wall.

Finding cables with varying lengths isn’t a difficult search, but make sure you search different brands and test the cable on your unit before making the purchase. Some cheap ones heat up easily, or break, and some don’t even work as they should. As with most purchases, shop around on the reviews page to see how others rate the product.

While we hope this is helpful for your next device shopping trip, we understand it’s not an exhaustive list. If you’ve got a tech question or need help searching for the next best gear for your device, stop by our shop today and get some expert advice! We’re happy to talk through some good options for you and point you in the right direction. And as always, don’t hesitate to call iParts & Phone Repairs if that device is in need of a repair!

From unlocking your iPhone with a face mask on to having more control in terms of app tracking, here’s everything you should know about the iOS 14.5 .

The 3rd of May 2021 saw Apple iPhone users scrambling to update their iOS versions to the tech giant’s newest firmware release. Regarded as the manufacturer’s most controversial iPhone operating system update yet, 14.5 packs new updates in user privacy, Face ID unlocking, the beloved emojis, Music app, and other security enhancements.

Why is it “controversial”?

Even before iOS 14.5 arrived on our iPhones, tabloids and news outlets left and right were already rushing to release pieces on how the new iOS firmware update will affect Facebook and other applications that rely on ads for revenue.

The part of the feature-packed update that made it controversial was the app tracking transparency (ATT) feature that gives iOS device users the option to allow or disallow applications from tracking their activities in exchange for more relevant advertisements.

Before the new Apple update, users weren’t explicitly informed about app tracking and how applications such as Facebook use their data. Most were unaware that applications can track their movements in other, non-relevant ways on their iPhone or smartphone.

The controversial part of this was Facebook and others using these divergent methods as a way to jack up their revenue. They don’t earn on subscriptions, and Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg had already expressed (when he appeared before Congress in 2018) that Facebook relies on ads to make money.

For other applications that make money the same way, iOS 14.5 can cost these companies a vast amount of money. The update even led to a publicized fallout between Apple CEO Tim Cook and Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg.

Users disabling apps from tracking means these applications won’t be able to get their usage data from the date on other applications, such as shopping apps. Advertisers, frustrated, know they wouldn’t pay the same price for less, or no data. Before the new iOS 14 update, users would generally notice that products they’d been eyeing on other applications show up on Facebook Ads – this is a specific product of app tracking.

More on the big features

Unlocking iPhone With Face Mask On

Another iOS 14.5 feature that made headlines was that users can now unlock their iPhones even with a face mask. This feature came to the rescue, albeit a bit late, of iPhone users struggling to put their masks down to unlock their iPhone using Face ID.

Some headlines, however, can be a tad misleading. What Apple might not tell you from the start is that this feature requires one to have an Apple Watch. The Apple Watch will let you bypass Face ID and unlock your phone. This requires both the iPhone and Watch to be close to each other, or else you’d have to put your mask down for a Face ID unlock or type your PIN.

Apple Maps crowdsourcing

iOS 14.5’s new Apple Maps adapts a key feature from Waze. The latter is the most popular one of its kind to allow real drivers to crowdsource accidents, speed traps, and other hazards on the road. The new iOS update saw Apple’s native map app allowing users to do the same.

You can now report accidents, hazards, and speed traps you encounter yourself with your voice and Siri, allowing you to report these things without having to take your eyes off the road.

Other feature updates

A lot came with the new iPhone update. Aside from the ATT updates and face mask unlocks, none of the updates were landscape-changing. But iPhone users did receive 200 new emojis, Apple Podcasts Subscriptions, new Siri voices, battery health calibration, PS5 and Xbox controller support, dual-sim 5G support, and many others.

What do these features mean for consumers like me?

The ATT update would change your experience on the internet by a lot, and you probably won’t even notice it. You’ll see fewer ads that seem all too familiar, and if you’re one of those users who are heavily aware and conscious about their data, you’re probably happy about this ATT update.

Another thing, the face mask unlock feature would only benefit you if you own an Apple Watch and have it paired with your iPhone, which isn’t the case for every iPhone user enjoying the new update.

As for maintaining your iPhone’s performance, you can rely on this iOS update to patch a few things up for you software-wise, but if you have problems with your hardware, you’re better off reaching out to repair stores that specialize in iPhone repair. Thanks to COVID-19, kids are spending a lot more time on their devices. Whether it’s a MacBook Air for school, the iPad for music lessons, or just an iPhone 8 for regular screen time, kids are in front of screens more than ever before. Let’s use that time wisely! We’ve done our research and have found some of the top education apps for children. Check out a few of the options we’ve come up with:

Goodness Shapes

Age Range. 3-6

If you’re a parent of a 3-6 year old, you know that they can be handful sometimes (did we sometimes? We meant always). You always have to keep your eyes peeled, waiting for them to run towards your freshly painted wall with an uncapped Sharpie. And let’s not get started with entertaining them on road trips or doctors visits. The simple solution is to give your toddler a phone or tablet, enjoy a little peace and quiet, and try not to think about how much screen time they’ve already had. Take away some of that guilt and try out the Goodness Shapes app! They are never too young to learn their shapes, so take that screen time and let the learning begin.

Take some time to sit with them as they play – several studies have shown that co-playing with your children leads to faster development and better engagement.

ABCmouse.com

Age Range. 2-8

Want to take learning to the next level? Try ABCmouse. Covering topics like math and reading while also including music and art, this app really has it all. Depending on your child’s age, you can purchase different bundles that increase with difficulty. Get started with a 30-day trial and see how your kids like it. With ABCmouse, you can ensure your child’s time spent on the iPad or Galaxy tablet is enjoyable, but still educational.

Quick Math Jr.

Age Range. 4-8

Time for some honesty – who still counts with their fingers? Well, you’re not alone. We all know we should have taken our math classes more seriously in school, but sometimes it was just plain boring. Luckily for your children, they live in an age booming with exciting – and helpful! – math apps. Quick Math Jr. is a great outlet for some of that loose energy, keeping kids engaged with math problems and puzzles. This simple app makes math an enjoyable experience with challenges and games designed for kids ages 4-8.

Duolingo

Age Range. 10+

The younger you start learning a language the better. To reach a high language proficiency, it’s best to start learning at around 10 years old, according to a Scientific American article. While Duolinguo can’t necessarily ensure total language proficiency, the app will help them build the foundation that will serve them well in future language courses. Another great part of Duolingo is that your child can complete English grammar lessons as well! Get your kids started early with the Duolingo app so they can take their language learning to the next level.

Swift Playgrounds

Age Range. 9+

We all know that learning how to code is a great advantage, but like math, learning to code sounds incredibly dull. That’s where Swift Playground comes in! This genius app allows your kid to start learning to code in a fun and engaging environment. While you child may not become the next big tech giant, giving them that extra coding skill will be a great help. From website building to video game creation, coding is a vital tool that your kid can use for years to come.

Sorting Through Old Photos and Contacts – Do You Need Them All? https://ipartsrepair.com/sorting-through-old-photos-and-contacts-do-you-need-them-all/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=sorting-through-old-photos-and-contacts-do-you-need-them-all Thu, 18 Mar 2021 12:07:50 +0000 https://ipartsrepair.com/?p=6604 We’ve all been there before — taking multiple photos from different angles just to make sure you get the best shot possible (even though most of them aren’t worth sharing). We’ve all been there before — taking multiple photos from different angles just to make sure you get the best shot possible (even though most of them aren’t worth sharing). Or taking a hundred selfies with a hundred different faces only to just post one on Instagram. And if you’ve really gotten into phone photography after reading our iPhone 12 camera blog, you probably have a camera roll full of test shots that you’ll never edit or upload. And remember adding that one “friend” into your contacts but then never messaging them? So what should you do with all of those photos and contacts you no longer need?

In this blog, we’ll cover a couple of reasons why you should consider sorting through your old photos and contacts. After all, 2021 could be your year of productivity and efficiency (check out our 2 cents on that topic)!

How Should You Clean Out Your Photos and Contacts?

  1. Organization

If you’re anything like us, your phone’s camera roll is probably anything but organized. And you probably don’t want to waste a ton of space on photos and videos you will never use or upload to social media. But with our tips in hand, you’ll have an organized camera roll before you know it!

For your first step in the organization process, we recommend creating albums for your photos and categorizing them that way. You can organize by timeline, by people, by events, or any category you want! That way, the next time you’re looking for a specific photo, it will be at the tip of your fingers.

And if you’re overwhelmed by the mass of photos in your camera roll, you can select photos in bulk and transfer them to a specific album as well. It’s quick and organized!

  1. Save on the Cloud

Not quite sure if you’re ready to part with all of those photos just yet? Upload them to the Cloud! This option is for iPhone users only, of course, but it allows you to store your images elsewhere and free up some space on your phone in the process. As long as you have internet access, you’ll be able to transfer your photos from your phone to the Cloud.

  1. Delete, Delete!

This is the not-so-fun part — we know. But just remember that the best part of a moment captured in a photo is the moment itself. Just think about how many duplicate, blurry, and screenshotted images are just sitting on your phone! Delete any photos that just don’t stand out to you, because that probably means you’ll never use them for anything. And in the end, decluttering will feel good — trust us.

  1. Establish a “Cleaning Out Routine”

Get into the habit of cleaning out your photos by setting a weekly or monthly reminder to do so. Or you could even set a weekly reminder to organize them and a monthly reminder to delete the ones you no longer need/want!

Don’t put it off any longer; now that you have the tips and tricks to sort through your phone’s photos and contacts, go ahead and go for it! And if you need any assistance along the way, don’t hesitate to give iParts & Phone Repairs a call.

If you’re reading this blog, chances are you’ve received the all-too-familiar message that your device “hasn’t been backed up in x amount of weeks” or there’s “not enough storage.” Whether you own an iPhone, Macbook, PC computer, or iPad, you’ve probably shrugged off that message a time or two before, thinking it can wait for another day. But the information on your device, whether it’s photos, videos, or documents, is probably extremely important to you. So why should you always keep your tech with a device backup?

In this blog, we’ll address that question and more, including the definition of a backup and how to backup all of your devices.

What Exactly Is a Backup?

When you backup your device, you are essentially making a copy of all of your device’s data and storing it elsewhere in case you ever lose your data. Many phones have automatic backup services that you can turn on in settings, and iPhones specifically have iCloud backup and iTunes backup.

What is the Benefit of a Backup, and Why Does Your Device Keep Pushing You to Do One?

Everyone experiences technical issues with their devices. And if you lose data without having your device backed up, you’re losing a lot more than just your contacts! Even if you do transfer all of your data storage to something like iCloud or Dropbox, you should still do a hard backup of your devices. Restoring all of your data from storage systems like iCloud or Dropbox can be both time-consuming and frustrating, even if you store all of your apps, music, photos, etc. on those systems. It can take hours to reinstall all of that data back onto your device. But if you backup your device, it will only take a few minutes!

How to Do a Device Backup

There are many different ways to backup your devices, so we’ll go over a few backup solutions below to help you determine what works best for you.

1. Phones

Android: Android phones have a backup service built into the phone that will automatically backup your device settings, contacts, app data, etc. To turn automatic backup on, open the Settings app on your Android phone and select System, and then select Backup. From here, you can turn on both the automatic backup and “Backup to Google Drive,” which will automatically backup data like photos, videos, documents, etc. to your Google Drive.

iPhones & iPads: There are several ways to backup your iPhone or iPad. Apple suggests using iCloud or using your computer for backups.

To backup via iCloud, make sure you’re connected to Wi-Fi. Then, go to Settings, [your name], and tap iCloud. From there, make sure your iCloud Backup is turned on so that iCloud will automatically backup your iPhone or iPad each day. You can also select “Back Up Now” to immediately start the backup process.

To backup via your computer, first connect your iPhone or iPad to your computer. If you have macOS Catalina, open Finder, and if you have macOS Mojave or a PC, open iTunes. On Finder or iTunes, locate your iPhone or iPad on your computer. Then select “Back Up Now.”

2. Computers

PC Computers: If you have a Windows-based PC, select the Start button, then select Control Panel > System and Maintenance > Backup and Restore. Here, you will have the option to set up backup if you haven’t already or manually create a new backup (to do this, just click “Backup now”).

Macs: With Mac computers, you can also use iCloud as a backup service to store files, photos, etc. Or you can backup your Mac with a method called Time Machine, which is a built-in backup feature on your Mac. To create backups with Time Machine, you will need an external storage device like a backup disc. Once you’ve purchased one, go to Apple Menu > System Preferences > Time Machine. From here, you can select your backup disk. Time Machine will automatically make periodic backups for you once your backup disk is set up.

Your device holds some of your most personal and private information, so why wait for the inevitable to happen? The next time you see that annoying message on your device, don’t hesitate to go ahead and back it up!

And if you have any questions or concerns in the process, you can always give iParts & Phone Repairs a call.
